A new network for early career HE researchers – ECHER (Early Career Higher Education Researchers’ Network) was founded just prior to the last CHER conference that took place in June 2011 on Iceland. The initial meeting included 25 people from 10 countries all over the world.

During the initial meeting, it was highlighted that the purposes of ECHER network will be (quote from the ECHER website):

  • Linking up with other researchers in the field, to exchange ideas, skills, build links and collaborations (via a mailing list and networking platform/website).
  • Share experiences, both of disciplinary and research issues and the process of academic training and development.
  • Providing a voice for early-years researchers in this very broad and diverse area.
  • Developing comparative perspectives and projects by building links with those with experience from other HE systems.
  • Create a membership directory.

ECHER welcomes members who:

  • have been working in higher education research under 10 years
  • are doctoral and post-doctoral  fellows (or have recently finished)
  • are in the process of writing their master thesis and have plans to continue in research

In order to become a member, one has to fill out a membership application that can be downloaded here.

For the time being the introductory site is hosted on the webpage of University of Kassel and INCHER.
