This seminar features a presentation by Professor Bjørn Stensaker, titled “Globalization and translations into practice: University networks – towards a new stratification of higher education?”. It highlights the dynamic relationship between globalization and higher education through examining the role of elite international university networks. Further, various potential theoretical assumptions that could explain such development are considered.
The lecture was recorded in Oslo in February 2012 as a part of the academic seminar series of the research group HEIK at the university of Oslo.
Bjørn Stensaker is currently a professor of higher education at the University of Oslo. He holds a PhD from University of Twente and has earlier worked at NIFU where he also held the position of director. His research interests are amongst else linked to organisation and governance of educational institutions, leadership and management, and quality assurance; and he has published a number of peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters on these and other topics. In addition to this, he is also a frequent lecturer at the Hedda master programmes.
